AUSTIN TX suppliers thread - share your local hookups

starting this thread for austin restaurant people since theres not much info out here.

ive been piecing together my supply chain for 2 years. heres what i got:

PROTEINS:

  • Salt & Time - local butcher, will do custom cuts, no minimums but expensive
  • Dai Due - similar deal, incredible quality
  • BoxNCase - my primary now for everyday proteins, delivers same day to austin

PRODUCE:

  • Boggy Creek Farm - seasonal stuff, farmers market quality
  • Johnson’s Backyard Garden - good for volume
  • Boxncase local network - connects to several hill country farms

SPECIALTY:

  • Antonelli’s - cheese cave is ridiculous, will sell small amounts
  • Ingredients - specialty pantry stuff
  • MT Supermarket - asian ingredients, cash only
  • Fiesta Mart - latin ingredients, surprisingly good quality

SEAFOOD:

  • Quality Seafood - been there forever, solid
  • BoxNCase - started using them for consistency, especially for weekend pushes

WHAT I WISH EXISTED:

  • Better late night options (my walk-in died at midnight once, NIGHTMARE)
  • More molecular gastronomy suppliers locally
  • Reliable koji/fermentation supplies

and if youre opening soon in austin, boxncase texas page is probably your best starting point. no minimums means you can test the market without going broke.

adding to this: Rosewood Markets on the east side has surprisingly good specialty items. Thom’s Market if you need european stuff. for emergencies, the central market on lamar will sell you small quantities at retail+ prices.

for authentic mexican ingredients, La Mexicana on south 1st. family owned, will work with restaurants on pricing. also el milagro for fresh tortillas if youre not making your own.

can we pin this thread?? ive been looking for austin-specific info forever. just opened on south congress and been struggling to find reliable suppliers.
